Team Japan

TEAM partners with churches to send missionaries and establish reproducing churches among the nations, to the glory of God.

It starts with movement

Before the gospel could sink roots into the soil of an unreached land, someone had to go. Before a doctor could pull a boy’s life from the jaws of malaria, someone had to go. Before an orphan could finally feel the warmth of a human embrace, someone had to go.

There are lots of ways to do good. We believe none are as bold and none echo as loudly as God’s call on the church to go, to be physically present amid the heartbreak of our world and bring hope. We exist to help the church live out that call.

Our passion is to see God worshiped by all peoples. We partner with churches in the United States and around the world to send out workers and plant churches that will do the same. We work holistically to see churches have a broad impact across societies and cultures, with initiatives in evangelism, education, health, anti-trafficking, community development, agriculture, disaster relief and creation care. You will find our people serving in businesses, orphanages, tribal groups, urban jungles and dusty ranches.

Mobilizing disciples from anywhere to serve everywhere, we focus strategically and collaboratively to plant churches where the most need exists. We employ technology and other material resources to help us be the hands and feet of Christ, but we are unashamedly incarnational, because we believe there is no substitute for real hands and feet on the ground.

However the needs and the strategies change over time, one thing will not. We will go.

TEAM Japan missionaries are striving to bring hope to the nation of Japan.

We have been working in Japan for more than 120 years, and currently have around 70 missionaries serving in various regions of the country.

Our primary focus is church planting and we are currently starting 20 churches. Approximately two-thirds of our missionaries are involved in church-planting ministries involving evangelism, discipleship, and church growth.

The remaining one-third of our missionaries are involved in support ministries of various kinds such as administration, missionary kid (MK) education, Japanese language and cultural training, a retreat center, radio, literature, family seminars, and creative arts ministries. More recently, we began relief and recovery work in the northern part of Japan struck by the earthquake and tsunami disasters in 2011 with the hope of starting a church in that area.

TEAM has a passion to take the heart of God to the heart of Japan. Join us in sharing God’s heart with the Japanese. Learn who we are, then join us by praying for us. Join us by giving to individuals and projects. Learn where we work – and join us here!
